Due to the limited availability and prohibitive cost of natural Turquoise, many jewelry designers use Turquoise Howlite as a more accessible substitution. As dyeing practices have advanced, Turquoise Howlite has become even more popular and durable in the gemstone community. In jewelry design, Turquoise Howlite looks great with gold and silver metals. This stone is often paired with Smoky Quartz, Sunstone, or Petrified Wood in jewelry design.

While the vibrant color of this stone is not natural, the Howlite gemstone is still a meaningful stone with a rich history. Howlite was first discovered in Nova Scotia in 1868 by Henry How, a famous Canadian mineralogist for whom the stone was named. Howlite is currently found in parts of the United States and Canada. Most Howlite today is sourced from Southern California.
