Lapis Beads & Pendants

Lapis, also known as Lapis Lazuli, is a bold cobalt blue gemstone with a rich history across many world cultures. Geologically, Lapis is a metamorphic stone made from three minerals: lazurite, calcite, and pyrite.

In jewelry design, Lapis coordinates with both silver and gold metals. Lapis looks great with neutral and white stones, including Moonstone, Hematite, and Smoky Quartz. Pearl beads also compliment Lapis.

Lapis is the Latin term for “stone,” and Lazuli originates from the Persian word for “sky.” In ancient cultures, Lapis was believed to be a “stone from the sky.” Archaeologists and historians have linked Lapis to many ancient civilizations including the Ancient Egyptians, Mesopotamians, and Babylonians. This stone was very popular among ancient Egyptians, used in amulets, tombs, and rituals. Powdered Lapis was used by Ancient Egyptians as eyeshadow. Today, most Lapis is found in Afghanistan, Chile, and Siberia.

In gemstone healing, Lapis is thought to guide us towards our true purpose in life. This stone symbolizes heightened discernment, spiritual clarity, and the wisdom to learn more about ourselves. Lapis is also said to enhance communication due to its link with the throat chakra.
