Background on Zodiac symbols

Ancient History

Zodiac symbols, also known as glyphs, represent each of the twelve astrological placements. Astrology has been linked to celestial phenomena for over 2,000 years. Starting in the third century, Babylonians used a twelve-part astrological calendar to define seasonal shifts, moon cycles, and spiritual connections. Each of the twelve astrological seasons was given a designated symbol. Throughout history, these symbols have been used in artistic depictions of astrology from detailed drawings to more simple and minimalist.

Modern Interpretation

The modern understanding of each person having an astrological placement based on the date, time, and location of their birth came about in the 20th century with the popularity of horoscopes. Each astrological sign has a glyph and symbol representative of its traits and characteristics. Glyphs are abstract drawings that depict the symbol of that sign, which is what we have on our zodiac charms!
