Malachite was named for its resemblance to the rich green, jagged-edged leaves on a mallow plant. Most Malachite is found in Mexico, Australia, Russia, and the African nations of Congo, Gabon, Zambia, and Namibia. Malachite was a common ingredient in green paints during the Renaissance including the paint used by Michaelangelo in his painting of the Sistine Chapel.
