Dumortierite is occasionally referred to as “blue denim quartz” or “blue denim stone” due to its resemblance to the color of dark-wash jeans. This stone is most often found in Austria, France, Italy, and Canada. Dumortierite is named after paleontologist Eugene Dumortier who first categorized this stone in 1881 after discovering it in the French Alps.
