Sardonyx is a black Chalcedony-based stone with inclusions of white, brown, and red that appear like veins or thin stripes across each stone.

Like most black gemstones, Sardonyx pairs beautifully with other black or white gemstones like Onyx, Black Obsidian, and Moonstone. Deep red stones like Rainbow Jasper provide a striking contrast to Sardonyx’s color palette. Both gold and silver metals coordinate well with Sardonyx.

The name Sardonyx comes from a combination of two Greek words: “sard” meaning “reddish brown” and “onyx” meaning “veined gem.” Most Sardonyx is sourced from India but it has also been found across Central Europe and even the Great Lakes region of the United States. 

In the metaphysical community, Sardonyx is believed to hold healing properties that can protect us from negative energies and self-doubt.
